Hemant Goswami is a social activist working on public health and civil rights issues with diverse professional experience of over seventeen years. Hemant has architected and initiated to make Chandigarh as the first smoke-free city of India (and any third world country) by using a combination of legal innovation and strategic action. Thereafter ensured that the “Smoke-free Chandigarh” initiative remains sustainable. (As of date, the Smoke-free Chandigarh initiative has successfully sustained for nearly one and a half year). Goswami's strategy of using string of legal initiatives, court cases and routine advocacy activities has often cornered the tobacco industry and produced quantifiable results.
