Oral Presentation Guidelines |
|
Preparing your presentation |
You will have a maximum of 10 minutes for your presentation and questions will be limited to 2 minutes
Data projector, laptop, screen, microphone and loud speakers will be available in the hall, but no Internet connection. The laptops in the hall will be running Microsoft XP as the operating system.
Prepare your presentation in MS-PowerPoint versions 2003 or earlier, or MS-Word versions 2003 or earlier.
Assuming 30 seconds to 1 minute per slide, your presentation should be less than 15 slides, but keeping to the 10 minutes time limit is more important than the number of slides.
Please organize the presentation with an introduction, methods, results and conclusions. If your presentation is not based on research findings, please do include an introduction, then the body of your message, and conclusions and or recommendations.
The first slide should list the title of the presentation and all the authors, with the first author at the top. Please draw attention to the first author’s name in case you are not the first author.
|
Storing your presentation |
Please bring your presentation on a pen drive. Delete all other files besides your presentation from the pen drive and scan it for viruses.
To be sure that your presentation is not damaged, you can consider storing it on a second medium like CD, DVD or laptop.
|
Uploading your presentation |
Please go to 14wctoh.org/upload_presentation.asp and upload your presentation into the conference server.
Uploading your presentation will reduce the time you have to spend in the Speaker Preparation room, which may be crowded.
|
Speaker Preparation Rooms |
Speakers will not be permitted to directly upload their presentations onto the laptops in their presentation hall. This must be done either online as described in the previous paragraph, or at the Speaker Preparation room. In the room the speaker will receive assistance to review and upload his presentation. At pre-defined intervals, the presentations will be grouped and taken to the halls by conference staff.
Two Speaker Ready/Preparation rooms will be available for oral presenters at the conference. One room will be at the NCPA - Piramal Gallery, and the other at the Trident Hotel, Meeting Room 2, and Rooftop level.
Please go to the Preparation room directly after registration, or on the evening before your presentation, and definitely not later than three hours before your presentation.
Speakers should check-in at the Preparation room in the same venue where they will be giving their presentation. A speaker giving presentations at both NCPA and Trident should visit both preparation rooms.
The Speaker Ready Rooms will be open during the following hours:
|
March 8 - 11: |
9 am to 7.00 pm |
|
March 12: |
9 am to 12 noon |
|
Tips for a Good Presentation |
The official language of the WCToH is English. Please PROOF READ all materials with someone who has strong English language skills.
No more than seven lines (and no more than 6-8 words per line) on a slide or PowerPoint screen. More than this is difficult to read. Don’t overload your slides with too much text or data.
Don’t just read out all the points from the screen.
If you would like further discussion with a questioner, please ask him/her to meet you after the session, rather than carrying on an extended discussion during your presentation. |
