Tobacco Dependence Treatment: From Science to Global Dissemination

Join tobacco dependence treatment experts and providers from around the globe for a pre-conference on treatment at the World Conference on Tobacco or Health. This pre-conference program is offered free of charge and will address treatment as a high priority in the context of the WHO MPower Report and Article 14 of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC).
The morning segment will include notable key note speakers, updates on the science of treatment, development of treatment guidelines and training curriculum. Lunch will be served (at no cost to registrants) followed by 8 interactive break-out sessions facilitated by world recognized experts. This event will be a hands on experience where attendees can both learn and share their successes and challenges in addressing treatment in their countries.

Pre-Conference Objectives: |
|
- Positioning treatment as a high priority in the context of the WHO MPower Report and Article 14 of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC).
- Assist attendees in recognizing and developing effective treatment guidelines to address the needs of tobacco users, including priority populations.
- Educate attendees on effective promotion strategies for the treatment for tobacco dependence; how to maximize reach potential; and targeting of priority populations.
- Assist health care providers to intervene at all stages of tobacco use by implementing best practices for tobacco use and dependence, (eg. primary care, pediatric care, and parents of children and adolescents).
- Demonstrate approaches of training of lay educators for intervention and education in tobacco dependence treatment.
- Disseminate scientifically proven treatment approaches, including counseling approaches and pharmacological agents demonstrating effectiveness in randomized controlled trials.
- Orient attendees to the core-competencies for the training of treatment providers to assure high quality care.
