TReND Symposium: Research to Reduce Tobacco-Related Inequalities |
We are pleased to announce a one-day pre-conference workshop entitled: Research to Reduce Tobacco-Related Inequalities: Worldwide Implications For and Exemplars of Tobacco Control. The purpose of this workshop is to provide a forum for sharing knowledge and discussing ways to reduce tobacco-related inequalities through measurement, communication, intervention, and policy research efforts. The workshop is free, however space is limited to the first 10 participants, as pre-registration is closed.

This symposium will be held in conjunction with the 2009 World Conference on Tobacco or Health in Mumbai, India at the National Centre for Performing Arts on Sunday, March 8, 2009, from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.

Meeting Goals: |
Through panel presentations and audience discussions, this research-oriented workshop will address the following goals:
Goals
- Define social stratification, articulate its manifestations in different countries and regions of the world, and address its role in tobacco-related inequalities.
- Provide examples of how gender, class, race, ethnicity, caste, and region are associated with tobacco-related inequalities and diseases in different countries.
- Increase understanding of how different measures and research design strategies have been used to address factors such as class, race, ethnicity, caste, and region in different countries and their implications for tobacco control.
- Showcase exemplar interventions to reduce tobacco-related inequalities that have been conducted and evaluated at the individual and population-based levels.
Attendees will be encouraged to participate and share knowledge and experience from their own regions throughout the day.
